Mister Turtle Friend: July Hip Kit

Hey y’all, Kate Kennedy here with another layout using the July Hip Kit. I just loved all the teals and grays in this kit and have also been loving sticky to just a couple of colors. You will see in the video that I matted my photo and arranged all the embellishment across the bottom and realized it was just too blah! So I took a stencil and the Prima Ink and I love the way it added some texture and depth to the layout. I trimmed it down and matted the whole thing on the Studio Calico South of Market paper.

Here is the layout:

Do you scrapbook with just a couple of colors? Or do you love to use several different colors on one project? I would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks so much for watching!

Embossing on vellum

Hey y’all, Kate Kennedy here with another fun technique video for your viewing pleasure 🙂 I just cannot get over how stinkin’ cute the Campout set is from last month’s release. Even though, it was not one of my assigned sets, I couldn’t not have it to play with. And I am so glad that I ordered it. For this card I decided to emboss on vellum for two reasons really:

1. It make fussy cutting an image super easy. Because the embossing creates a bit of a raised edged you can just glide your scissors right along it for a super easy cut.

2. I wanted a subtle background on the images that was not too overwhelming. I could have easily used patterned paper, but, I love the airiness the vellum gives.

A couple of tricks for embossing on vellum:

1. Make sure to use some sort of anti-static product. They make tools for this or you can use a dryer sheet.

2. Pre-heat your heat gun. Turn on your heat gun and let it warm up for about 15-30 seconds before hitting the vellum with it.

3. Heat the back of your vellum. This will help keep the vellum for wharping.

Here is the adorable stamp set Campout:

Here is the card I made. This is a folding card that I attached in the middle with a bit of twine. For step-by-step instructions please make sure to check out the video below.

Bloom & Grow

Super excited to share my first project using the July Hip Kit! I took a twist with this project because I used a few products from the last couple of kits that I had leftover. One in particular was this paper from Webster’s Pages that I had been dying to use but just couldn’t make it work last month. I was so happy to get to use it this month and love the way it worked with this layout. So, grab all your Hip Kits and discover how awesomely they will work together. To keep my leftover supplies separate from my stash I have a drawer just for Hip Kit. I love that it is all right there and I can dig around and find the perfect finishing touch. Here is the paper I mentioned:

Pretty Little Studio : Silly Monkey

2135

A couple of years ago when I first started scrapbooking I had the honor of being on my first design team. Melissa from Pretty Little Studio was so sweet and welcoming. And, let me tell you, I had NO idea what I was doing. It was a wonderful experience I am so grateful to have remained in contact with her and that she has entrusted me once again to showcase her amazing new collections!

First up is Silly Monkey, “This collection of Silly Monkeys is perfect to document your little monkeys and all their silly antics. Lots of fun colors, wood grains and big polka dots are hanging out in this fun silly collection.” – Melissa

She is so right, this collection is so fun and I had such a great time making the video and this card. So please check out the video and head over to Pretty Little Studio and use the code KATE for 20% off your order.
